Dover Summer Recreation T Ball Rules
T Ball Rules for DSR 2024
The purpose of T Ball is to get young players experience with the game and also keep their attention and excitement focused. “Down” time can be a real bummer for the young players. A couple of years ago DSR adopted a generous set of rules for T Ball.
These rules were adopted to maximize field and batting experience. All your players should ultimately end up with the same amount of field time as well as “at bats”.

The purpose of T Ball is to get young players experience with the game and also keep their attention and excitement focused. “Down” time can be a real bummer for the young players. A couple of years ago DSR adopted a generous set of rules for T Ball.
- All “at bats” are off the T for the complete game/season
- All players on the team play in the defensive position at the same time (all players are in the field- no child sitting in the dugout). The traditional infield positions may only be played by 1 player at a time. However, there isn’t a limit to the number of players in the outfield at 1 time.
- Outs are to be called. However, outs will not counted to end an inning. (3 outs would not necessarily end the ½ of the inning). The ½ of the inning ends when all offensive players have had 1 at bat.
- The 2nd ½ of the inning continues the same way. i.e. Defensive players take the field and all offensive players have an at bat.
- The game concludes when both teams have had 2 complete at bats.
These rules were adopted to maximize field and batting experience. All your players should ultimately end up with the same amount of field time as well as “at bats”.
